A majority of pet owners consider their pets to be family. However, it’s also common knowledge that pets are pretty messy to live with. It isn’t their fault – but the amount of fur and their smell is frustrating at times. So how can pet owners keep their home clean and their pets happy? This week join us as we provide solutions to some of the most pet cleaning problems for pet owners.
Problem: My dog still smells funny, even though I’ve bathed them. How do I eliminate the odor?
There are a couple different issues that could be present in this case, so there is not one clear cut solution.
Solution One. If the dog in question has a lot of skin folds, such as a bulldog or sharpei, they may have a minor bacterial infection on their skin. There are pet cleaning wipes that are designed to remove bacteria and grime from the skin folds. Those are the best chance to clear any minor issues up.
Solution Two. Brush the dog’s teeth. If a dog has strong breath, they may be transerring the stench to their body when they like themselves. Try brushing the dog’s teeth to eliminate the odor.
Solution Three. It may not be the dog at all! Experts suggest that a dog’s collars are washed every two weeks or so. However, most pet owners barely clean the collar monthly, if at all. Fill a bowl with a mixture of dog shampoo and warm water. Let the collar soak in this solution for approximately half an hour. Finally, rinse the collar with cool water and let air dry.
Problem: I struggle to keep my cat’s litter box clean, and it gets smelly easily. What do I do?
Litter boxes are one of the few downsides to human’s felines friends. Other than placing the litter box as far away from humans as possible, what can cat owners do?
Solution One. Line the litter tray with plastic bags. This will may litter changing a fast and easy process. As an added bonus, those bags keep any unwanted scents from reaching the litter tray itself. Oftentimes, this prevents the litter box from becoming permanently stinky.
Solution Two. Spread baking soda on the litter tray before laying litter down. The baking soda helps neutralize odor, and cats help it do so. As the kitty kicks its litter over their waste, it naturally mixes the baking soda in.
Problem: My animal drools all over my furniture and floor. How can I prevent the gross puddles?
Get your pet a bandana! Not only do bandanas look super cute, they are functionally the same as a bib. Simply pick up a few bandanas from a local pet store or online retailer. Make sure that the bandanas are able to go into the washer.
To save time, the bandanas can actually be treated in the same way as collars. Wash the collars and bandanas together while the dog is being washed. Everything will be clean and lovely smelling all at once.
