Kids are one of the greatest joys in this world. They bring wonderful memories and lots of happiness, but there are times when they create messes and stains. Art projects, sports practices, and outdoors adventures are all part of having kids, but after a hard day of playing and fun, there is often a stain that we need to tackle. Here are a few ways to make cleanup swift and effective.

Grass

These stains prove how much fun kids can have while being outside. These should be treated with a prewash stain remover or by rubbing a stain fighting detergent with enzymes into the fabric. You should let that sit for five to ten minutes to let it really soak into the green stain. You should then rinse that with the absolute hottest water possible, permitting the clothing tag allows that, and then use bleach. There are bleaches that are color safe. Then proceed to wash that article of clothing as you normally would. Another treatment that works well is letting it soak in two-parts water one-part vinegar for about fifteen minutes. Then, gently dab the stain. Wash with an enzyme based detergent and repeat until the stain is diminished.

Chocolate Ice Cream

Chocolate is one of the most common favorite treats but it makes the most messes usually. Use a spoon to remove any extra chocolate and them massage liquid laundry detergent into the stain with your fingers. Let it sit for five to ten minutes, wash with a chlorine or all-fabric bleach of it’s safe for the article of clothing. This should do the trick, but you can repeat the process if the stain is stubborn.

Crayons

These should try to be cleaned up before washing the clothing. If the crayon is soft you might try freezing it and scraping off what you can. Otherwise, the article of clothing should be placed between two paper towels and a warm iron should be pressed lightly on the stain. Some of the crayon should be pressed to the paper towels. This process can be repeated as many times as you see fit. Just make sure to use new paper towels each time and take precautions to not transfer the stains to other articles of clothing or to other locations on the stained clothing first. Then this can be treated with a stain remover and laundered.

Ketchup

If this favorite condiment slides off of your child’s grilled item on to their shirt or shorts at your next cookout, start by carefully scraping off the remaining amount of condiment. Then rinse the area with cold water from the inside. You should then apply liquid detergent and lightly tap it into the stain using an old, but clean toothbrush. This should help break up the stain. After rinsing that, you should apply some white vinegar with a sponge. And rinse again. You should apply detergent again and tap it in with said toothbrush. You should then re-rinse and apply a stain remover. Let the stain remover sit for about ten minutes before proceeding to launder as normal.
