Keeping a business clean is a challenging, yet important task for all business owners. However, that rings true for one particular type of enterprise more than all others. Day care cleaning is a huge challenge, and one that needs a cleaning company who will rise to the challenge. This week, we are sharing our top tips for day care cleaning. Read on to learn some keys “do”s and “don’t”s, as well as the unique challenges day care cleaning provides.
Day Care Cleaning Challenges
- All products need to be child-safe. Kids put everything in their mouths or put their mouths on everything. The cleaning solution that works for office desks probably won’t work for day care tables.
- Kids make BIG messes. The employees at day cares often do their best to clean up the major spills that happen during the day. However, there is nearly always residue or a missed spot.
- There are bathrooms and diaper changing stations at day cares that pose potential biohazard situations for cleaners.
Tip One: Start With The Messiest And/Or Grossest Areas First
Usually, that will be where the kids eat lunch and the bathrooms. Nobody wants to get to the end of the cleaning routine and feel tired. Only to realize that you forgot the bathroom where some child did not quite make it to the toilet earlier that day. Starting in a disgusting area lets you get it done and over with.
Tip Two: Start High, But Focus Low
It is pretty common knowledge for adults that cleaning any space goes top to bottom. That way, any debris that falls down gets removed. However, with day care cleaning, there are way more messes under the four-foot mark than above it.
Focus on the lower half of walls, as well as counter and tabletops that are within reach of children.
Tip Three: Give The Floors Some TLC
The floors of a day care need a lot of care and attention. They have the challenges of a usual floor, such as dirt, mud, or anything else on the bottom of our shoes. However, those are combined with spilled food, leftover arts and crafts debris, and all the other messes kids seem to be able to make. Make sure to mop and vacuum the floor daily in order to avoid buildup of any one mess.
Don’t Forget To Clean These Areas
Common use items are easy to forget to wipe down, but it is often where the most germs are transferred.
- Door handles, particularly bathroom door handles
- Handles and knobs for cabinets and drawers that kids have access to
- Light switches or other buttons and switches that are used regularly (such as on a TV or a TV remote)
