This kitchen cleaning schedule will help you keep your kitchen sparkling and beautiful.

One of the hot spots of any home is the kitchen. It seems to be the place where most families congregate on any given day. Between all the foot traffic in and out and all the food prep that happens in there, it is no wonder that it can be one of the dirtiest rooms in the house. That said, who is not looking for ways to have a cleaner kitchen from day to day? One of the best tips we can give is to establish a kitchen cleaning routine that works for your home. If you stick to this routine for a few weeks, it will become habit and you will not even have to think about it anymore. The more you stick to it, the easier it will become and the cleaner your kitchen will be overall. So, let’s talk about some things to include in your kitchen cleaning schedule.

Daily

In order to keep your kitchen looking its best, there are a few tasks that you will need to tackle on a daily basis. Of course, this routine is not set in stone. You can adjust it as needed for your home. These are just some things to think about adding to your own personalized routine.

  1. Spray and wipe the countertops and stove top. Be sure to clean off any splatters that may have happened when your spaghetti sauce got a little too bubbly. It happens to all of us.
  2. Wipe any spills off the floor and sweep any stray crumbs as well.
  3. Deal with the dishes. It is no one’s favorite part, but it has to be done. A sink full of dirty dishes will make the whole kitchen look dirty, no matter what. This means you will need to unload the dishwasher from last night then reload it with today’s dishes.
  4. Scrub the sink. There’s no telling what has made its way down that drain, but one thing is certain: it is the culprit for a whole host of foul odors, so give the whole thing a good scrub and rinse.
  5. Put away any stray items. The kitchen tends to become the catch-all for items that people set down as they pass through. From backpacks to junk mail and everything in between, if it does not belong in the kitchen, put it in its proper home.

Weekly

  1. Mop the floor. You may need to make this a daily task if you have small children or pets, but most often once a week is plenty.
  2. Clean the exterior of your appliances. Now is the time to get those fingerprints off the front of the fridge or give the coffee pot a little extra love.
  3. Toss any leftovers or unwanted items from the fridge. You do not want any items past their prime making your fridge smell bad.
  4. Spray and wipe the front of the cabinets and throw any kitchen towels or dish cloths in the wash.

Monthly

  1. Time to clean the oven. If you have a self-cleaning oven, remember to remove the racks before running the cycle.
  2. Remove all items from the fridge and give the interior a good, thorough cleaning before replacing and reorganizing.
  3. If you have drawer dividers, remove their contents and give them a good washing as well.
  4. Clean and sanitize your trash can and recycling receptacle. This is one of the best ways to keep your kitchen smelling good.
  5. Check the drain of your dishwasher for any debris or scale. Now is a good time to give that a good cleaning too.
